The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC) is an independent body established under the Garda Síochána Act 2005. It is answerable to the Oireachtas (parliament). GSOC’s objectives are to establish a system for dealing with complaints against An Garda Síochána that is efficient, effective and fair to all concerned, and, to promote public confidence in that system. GSOC employs its own investigators for the investigation of serious complaints including all those alleging offences of a criminal nature.
